"fine of up to $2500, up to one year in jail, and a new mandatory $1050 tax."
Does this not violate the 8th amendment which states, "Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fi nes imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments infl icted."
Excessive Fine: $3550
Unusual Punishment: A year in jail for speeding.
Many states are beginning to enforce fines based on income.. The same way taxes work.
If you make millions of dollars a year.. The standard ticket isn't much a deterrent for speeding. Therefore, the richer you are the more you pay. I guarantee they would never fine a middle class american $3550 for speeding.
I just got a ticket for speeding about 30 minutes ago. I am 17 and I have no prior traffic violations. I was going 69 mph in a 55 mph zone. The arresting officer made me sign the ticket stating that I would be present at a court date set a few months from now. But if I pre-pay the fine will I have to appear in court? I am so confused.
As long as you don't get another ticket again for a long time, then you will be okay.
Wait for a notice in the mail, you can pay online and do traffic school, so your insurance doesnt go up.
I did my traffic school online with gototrafficschool.com and used a discount code: X2K-7CF-4F5 to save 2bucks off their course.
For the finals, search traffic school answers 2012 to find the questions and answers to review before taking the finals, for sure you will pass.
Best of luck.
I was riding a motorcycle in West Virginia, Charles Town. And a cop pulled me over because i was riding above the speed limit (49 on 25 mph).
My driver license is a Virginia State. Does anyone know if the point is transferable or not, since i'm from different state?
The cop said that i just need to pay the fine ($160) or i can come to the court to fight for it. But she said that the point is not transferable because i'm from different state. And she didn't mentioned that it's a reckless driving.
My concern is about getting less points out of my driving record. I don't care about paying $160 for the fee.
So if there's anyone know anything about similar case, please respond. Thanks in advance.
Note : West Virginia and Virginia is 2 different state.
Note : paying the fine is okay.. But the the points… Hmmm … I got 2 speeding tickets last year in virginia. Don't want to get my license supended. that's my concern…
